Movement Chicago

Climbing During Covid: What You Should Know

Movement Chicago Update

With the Omicron variant taking off, the Chicago Public Health Department has revised their health order to require proof of vaccination status to enter all gyms. We are continuing to follow the CDC and city mandates and therefore will need to see proof of vaccination when you arrive to either our Lincoln Park or Wrigleyville locations – starting January 3, 2022.

Please note that Movement is still required to have everyone wear masks at all times while in the gym regardless of vaccination status until the Health Department no longer requires this.

What is acceptable vaccination proof?

A valid Photo ID (Ages 16+)

Proof of vaccination

  • The CDC vaccination card, which includes name of person vaccinated, type of vaccine provided, and date last dose administered, or similar documentation issued by a foreign governmental jurisdiction
  • A photo or copy of a vaccination card as a separate document or stored on a phone/electronic device
  • Documentation of vaccination from healthcare provider

When does proof of vaccination become a requirement in Chicago?
January 3, 2022 proof of vaccination will be required to enter the gym. Our teams will begin accepting proof upon check-in immediately to allow you additional time to satisfy this requirement.

What is defined as full vaccination?

People are considered fully vaccinated:

  • 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
  • 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine

If you don’t meet these requirements, regardless of your age, you are NOT fully vaccinated. Please note that this guidance is subject to change in accordance with City of Chicago + CDC Guidelines.

How do I submit proof of vaccination status?
Vaccination proof should be presented at the front desk and will only need to be brought once. Please do not email documentation in advance of any visits.

Are there any exemptions?
All exemptions will need to contact the director at their gym for exemption approval. Approval will NOT be immediate and will need to be processed in accordance with City of Chicago exemption standards.

Do I still need to wear a mask if everyone is vaccinated?
The city of Chicago requires everyone over the age of 2 to wear a mask indoors regardless of vaccination status.

Why are you requiring proof of vaccination?
We are required by the Chicago Dept. of Health (CDH) to begin this process and once this mandate is no longer required by CDH, we will also remove this requirement.

What if I can’t submit proof of vaccination?
Currently, our understanding is Chicago Department of Health + Business and Consumer Protection are not allowing any exemptions for this mandate.

  • I'm ready to go back to the gym! How do I unfreeze my account?

When you visit the gym again, your account will be reactivated.

  • Are rentals available?

Rentals are available, but we strongly encourage you to bring your own gear.

  • Are lead ropes still available?

Yes, but supplies are limited. If possible, please bring your own lead rope.

  • Am I supposed to wear a mask while climbing or working out?

Yes, per our county guidelines, masks are required for all guests.

  • What exactly qualifies as a mask?

An acceptable mask is any face covering that covers your mouth and nose.  It can be made of cloth/fabric but should not have holes.

Wearing a mask protects others by reducing respiratory droplets that are expelled, so a mask should be two layers and cover snugly around the sides of the face and under your chin to prevent slipping. Masks with valves should not be used as they allow droplets out of the mask, defeating the mask’s one important purpose, protecting those around you.  Check out CDC Mask Guidance for best practices.

  • I have a vaccine exemption. How do I get in touch?

All exemptions will need to contact the director at their gym for exemption approval. Approval will NOT be immediate and will need to be processed in accordance with City of Chicago exemption standards.

    For Wrigleyville please email: wrigleyville@movementgyms.com

For Lincoln Park please email: lincolnpark@movementgyms.com

  • How long will these policies last?

Great question – these changes and guidelines are not permanent. As we continue to move toward our new normal, we will be guided by and comply with local county guidelines and we will keep members updated via the member newsletter, social media and our website.
