youth camps, programs, and teams
Youth programs are offered for young people of all levels. From day one, our programs foster a love of both climbing and the mental and physical challenges climbing can present. Over time, the journey progresses to focus on technical skills, physical conditioning, and teamwork.

Youth FAQ Page
-
Is climbing safe?
While rock climbing is inherently dangerous, we take considerable measures to mitigate those risks. These measures include but are not limited to: keeping coach: athlete ratios manageable, strict enforcement of safety protocols and well-trained, experienced coaches.
-
At what age do your programs start?
Our youth programs begin as young as 6 years old!*
-
If my child is under 4, can they still come to the gym?
Yes! Children of all ages are welcome in our facility with adult supervision until the age of 13; however, children under 4 may find our climbing areas challenging due to their physical size and/or emotional challenge. We find that generally, youth are ready for the challenges within the facility by about age 6.
-
How many participants are in each class?
Our Rec I, II and Club programs generally operate within a 5:1 ratio. Our older classes may operate on a 6:1 ratio on occasion. Our Mini Rec program maintains a ratio of 4:1.
-
What do your Rec programs consist of?
Our Rec programs provide foundational skills and exploratory play for children of all ages. Every child in our programs will have the opportunity to climb on the bouldering walls!
-
My child is afraid of heights – is this program right for them?
Our coaches are trained to help children of all skill and experience levels enjoy our space to their comfort level. Climbing in a controlled environment with experienced professionals is sometimes the best way to work through a fear of heights. Youth experience a variety of challenges within program and coaches provide support to work through those challenges at an appropriate pace for them.
-

Cancellation requests must be made in writing at least 5 days before the 1st of the month. Once processed, participants will not be re-enrolled in the next month or charged future tuition.
-

-
Do you offer private lessons?
Youth private coaching availability can vary throughout the year depending on instructor availability.
Private coaching sessions are taught by one of our coaching staff and involves 1:1 instruction. This option is great for children who are looking to improve a particular skillset.
-
Will my child learn to belay?
Youth enrolled in Harlem programs will be climbing on shorter bouldering walls where belaying is not necessary.
-
What’s the difference between competitive teams and recreational teams?
Competitive Teams require a high level of commitment and enthusiasm not only for rock climbing but for competing. Our competitive athletes train between 5 and 9 hours per week in addition to attending competitions on the weekends. The competitive team requires a full-year commitment at minimum with most of our competitive climbers participating for the duration of their youth eligibility (until 18 years old).
Recreational Teams offer a fun and relaxed environment in which to build upon foundational climbing skills. The commitment can range from minimal to moderate and there are no required competitions involved.
-
Can my child climb alone outside of program time?
Youth under 13 must have active adult supervision while inside the facility. Youth ages 13 and older may come and climb independently without supervision. All minors, supervised or unsupervised, are expected to practice good etiquette + safety procedure while in the facility.
