Lead Climbing Assumption of Risk

So you wanna lead? Great! All lead climbers and belayers must fill out the lead climbing assumption of risk**.  If you’re a first-time climber, you do not need to complete the lead climbing assumption of risk form.

Auto Belay Assumption of Risk

While we don’t have auto belays in all of the gyms, we do have them on our speed climbing walls. If you want to speed climb, you must fill out the auto belay assumption of risk form below. If you’re a first-time climber, you do not need to complete the auto belay assumption of risk.

Our Gym Policies

  1. Check-in

All climbers and observers must check-in at the front desk before entering the gym.

  2. Risks

Climbing is dangerous and there are inherent risks. Participants and observers must assume the risks of climbing and entering the facility. All climbers, participants, observers, individuals operating a safety system, and anyone proceeding past the check in area must sign (or their parent/guardian must sign) the participant agreement form.

  3. Double-check

Double-check your partner’s safety system (knots/harness /carabiners/belay device) before every climb. Our staff reserve the right to check safety systems at any time.

  4. Belay Check

Individuals desiring to top rope belay, lead belay, or lead climb must be at least 13 years of age and pass the corresponding Belay Check. Those individuals who do not pass or choose to not take the Belay Check may not belay or tie knots, and must wait a minimum of 24 hours before taking or re-taking the Belay Check. Individuals who have passed the Lead Climb Check may borrow a lead rope at the front desk, or use a personal rope provided it’s a single UIAA approved rope at least 40 meters in length. Our staff reserve the right to revoke belay privileges at any time. Limited exceptions to the age requirement are made for climbing team members.

  5. Weight differences

Weight differences between the climber and the belayer can greatly impact the safety of both individuals.

  6. Be respectful

All persons using the facility are expected to respect other individuals and conduct themselves in good order. Persons deemed by staff to be behaving in an unsafe or disorderly fashion will be asked to leave the facility.

  7. Youth

Climbers under the age of 13 must be supervised by an adult (18 years or older) or by a staff member. Youth under the age of 13 are not permitted in fitness areas. Parents and caregivers are responsible for the supervision of their children. Limited exceptions to the fitness area age requirement are made for climbing team members.

  8. *Legal Guardians

Legal guardians must present proof of guardianship to sign a child’s participant agreement. If the parent or guardian will not be present, please bring a photocopy of the adult’s government-issued photo ID for signature verification. Climbers under the age of 13 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult (18 years or older) at all times while in the climbing areas.

  9. **Lead Climbing

Lead climbing is an advanced form of climbing. Please complete the lead climbing assumption of risk only if you plan to lead climb/lead belay, or if you’re enrolling in the Intro to Sport Lead Climbing class.

Individuals desiring to lead belay or lead climb must be at least 13 years of age and pass the corresponding Belay Check. The lead assumption of risk must be completed prior to taking the Lead Climb/Belay Check.

For minors under 18 years of age, the lead assumption of risk must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
