- April 12 @ Denton
- May 10 @ Design District
- June 7 @ Plano (Grand Finale with finals round for Advanced + Open!)

Social Connections
👋 Swipe to meet Michael and David - the dynamic duo leading the Movement Plano team!
Michael is our newest addition to the DFW leadership team (despite working here for a full year this month)! Originally from Boston, this girl dad of 2 daughters is a huge sports enthusiast who loves basketball, football, and baseball. Around here, we also know Michael to be a top-tier vest connoisseur 🦺
David started climbing in 2017 (actually with our friends @movementgymsdmv!) and has been passionate about fitness well before that - he even used to manage our fitness program! This Maryland native is a proud pet dad to 3 huskies and 2 cats. When he`s not connecting with members at the front desk (his favorite part of the job!), you might catch him playing lacrosse or coaching the JP LAX team!
Both of these guys are super friendly and love to chat - so next time you see `em in the gym, don`t be shy, say hi! 😁

If we learned anything last year during the Games, it was that speed climbing is the future of the sport. That’s why we’re excited to announce that as of today, April 1, all of our DFW locations have been completely converted into speed climbing-only facilities! ⚡️⚡️
Why spend 3 hours projecting all sorts of routes when you could climb the same route 557 times in that timeframe? Efficiency is key. No more agonizing over choosing a route - just the pure joy of doing the exact same movements over and over again, but faster!
These changes impact not only our rope walls, but bouldering as well - because if you’re grabbing holds other than the speed holds - why? To support this transition, all yoga classes will now play the speed timer beeps as background music for the entire duration of class 🩵
The future is speed, and the future is now. In 2025 - we’re swapping variety for velocity. #SpeedIsAllYouNeed #MovementGyms

Last week, we welcomed @usaclimbing National Team Head Coach, Josh Larson, to collab with our DFW setting team to creating all new training routes for our local Elite climbers!
As some of these athletes (peep @annie.climbs.sanders 👀) prep for the upcoming IFSC World Cup season - these climbs will be instrumental to their training plan!
These things are HARD (seriously - some of the hardest climbs we’ve ever had in the gym). We can’t wait to watch our local crushers works on these (and a full round of WC style boulders, also at Plano!) this spring!
Thanks for hanging out, Josh 👊

✨MEMBER SPOTLIGHT✨
Meet Andres! Andres is a biologist, mountain guide, teacher, and athlete originally from Venezuela, now living in the U.S. he had the privilege of guiding in the mountains, running competitively, and climbing in diverse environments. He’s always seeking ways to push myself and help others discover their own passion for climbing, indoors and outdoors. When hes not training, hes out on the trails, hanging out with friends, studying and always enjoying the process of growth and adventure.
If you were a hold, what hold would you be and why?
I’d probably be a sloper—challenging at first, but with patience and trust, you realize there’s more to hold onto than you initially thought. Slopers reward technique, faith, and perseverance—much like life itself.
Did you choose climbing, or did climbing choose you?
A little bit of both. I started 20 years ago in the Andes of Venezuela, thanks to a friend who introduced me. That first experience hooked me, and climbing has since taken me to beautiful places across the world. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m thankful for all the lessons and connections along the way.
What do you love most about the gym?
The community, without a doubt. As a newcomer to the country, I’ve been fortunate to meet incredible people who have made me feel at home. These connections have not only enriched my climbing but have also taken me to many amazing places across the U.S. I’m grateful for the shared passion and support that make climbing so special.
Ropes or boulders?
Ropes, for sure. I love the mental and physical challenge, the endurance, and the adventure of climbing high. While I started with bouldering, ropes have captured my heart, and I’m grateful for every moment I get to spend on the rope.
What’s one piece of advice you have for folks new to the community?
Climbing isn’t about being the strongest. It’s about enjoying the process, being patient, curious, and consistent. Progress comes from trusting yourself and learning to move with intention. Stay humble, embrace the journey, and know that every step forward, no matter how small, is worth celebrating.
...
could’ve predicted that one 🥲 ...
Climbing challenges your body, but yoga balances and strengthens it. Pairing the two helps improve flexibility, mobility, and breath control, allowing you to climb smarter, recover faster and avoid injury. Find your flow on and off the wall!
With your Movement membership, you get to enjoy yoga classes at all 6 of our locations with no additional cost! check out our link in bio to learn more and sign up

Meet Brittney! Brittney`s been a part of the DFW climbing community since 2018 and has been hooked ever since! Recently, she`s dabbled in the art of bringing together the community with her and her friend Sianna`s polls at every comp. When not climbing, Brittney is an Occupational Therapist, enjoys reading (horror and thrillers exclusively), watching Bluey, and baking! If y`all haven`t had her ube cookies or conchas, you`re missin` out. 💙🧡
If you were a hold, what hold would you be and why?
"I`d definitely be a crimp because I`m small with a bit of an edge 😅"
Did you choose climbing or did climbing choose you?
"Climbing chose me!! I have a good friend who took me top roping years ago (circa 2018), and I instantly fell in love. Fun fact: I couldn`t grip my steering wheel afterward, so that was a fun drive home. 💀"
What`s 1 piece of advice you have for folks new to the climbing?
"My advice is always; try everything. Put hands on something and give it a go, regardless of the grade. You might surprise yourself with the cool things you`re capable of. 💙"
If you see Brittney around the gym, don`t be shy - say hi! She loves to make new friends, chat about her career, and gathering her awesome crew for themed climbing mornings at Plano! @brittaynaynay 👊

A-D route grading is back! 🌟
As of today, +/- grading will be retired and replaced with A-D grading at all Movement rope gyms. We`ve experimented with many grading systems across our gyms, and through our collective experience, we feel that A-D offers the most optimal in-gym experience when combined with consensus grading.
This A-D and consensus dynamic duo offers three key benefits ⬇️
1️⃣ Subjectivity of grading: Your experience with a climb is unique to you! Our Routesetters put a lot of thought into every grade, considering diverse perspectives, climbing styles, and experiences. We propose grades, but it’s the climbing community that ultimately shapes them through feedback and consensus. Using the YDS A-D scale for routes in combination with consensus tags, we aim to keep grades as fair and consistent as possible while staying true to local norms.
2️⃣ Increased granularity improves the ability to self-curate your experience: We know that tracking progress and performance is important to many climbers, and with a more granular grade offering, session curation and performance tracking is improved.
3️⃣ Authentic to the core of our sport: The most common grading system for sport climbing is the YDS A-D scale. Grades vary wildly depending on the area, first ascensionist, ethics, etc., but we feel it is important to align with this system as it provides an experience that is relatable and authentic to the sport.
If you`re new to the YDS scale - here`s the breakdown:
👉 5.10- = 5.10a/b
👉 5.10+ = 5.10c/d
Grading isn’t an exact science, and it’s always evolving alongside the climbing community. While grades will never be perfect, they create a shared language for setting goals, tracking progress, and finding the right challenge. Whether grades push you to try harder or just serve as a rough guideline, we’re stoked to roll out this change and we hope you are too! Climb on 🧗
