This is one of our most important and intensive indoor courses. If you climb outside at all or are just interested in learning new rope skills, this class is for you! Each 3.5-hour class covers a range of topics, from the basics of friction hitches and anchors, and into top-managed rescues and hauling systems. The first session will focus on the “foundation” skills of vertical self-rescue. We will start with knots and friction hitches, utilizing them to ascend a rope, move into anchor building, and discuss belaying from above.
Session 2 will build upon the skills learned in Week 1, by diving into lowering from above, basic haul systems, and escaping a belay.
Prerequisites: Lead Belay Check. Experience belaying outdoors at a minimum. Exposure to outdoor single-pitch climbing is helpful, as many skills will reference outdoor rescue scenarios.
